The Max 2 was a product that I’ve been eyeing up for a while but never had overwhelmingly
strong urges to purchase up until recently. With the release of the Vibemate app, the devices
interactive functions received a major upgrade for free and I was able to purchase the device
during a sale that lovense held on their online store for $99.00 USD as well as a
replacement gender neutral sleeve for $15 USD. This review will be a reflection of my
personal experiences with the product during the 2-3 months that I’ve had it in my
possession and has no affiliation to lovense.
Background on Lovense
Prior to the purchase of my Max 2, I had owned the Lush 3 from their line-up of devices and
had quite positive experiences with the product. Lovense stands above the rest of the
currently exploding smart sex toy market due to their refined zero latency app as well as
compatibility between their devices and constantly updating functions that feel as if it should
be included with every smart toy with an app. It also can’t be left out that Lovense toys are
one of the only toys that connect directly to camming software making it incredibly
irreplaceable for streamers and content creators.
First Impression
The packaging of the device is very simple. It’s made of quite cheap materials that honestly
makes you initially question the price of the toy as other products within a similar price range
come with a quite luxury unboxing experience. However, the moment that you take the Max
2, the charging cable and included storage bag you begin to understand why the product
packaging is minimalistic as the Max 2 really speaks for itself.
The ribbed case of the Max 2 is sturdy and allows for easy grip from every angle. The device
is high in production quality and feels quite sturdy to use despite the amount of technology
crammed into the device. The exterior is constructed of shiny white ABS plastic with 2
buttons for each function and has a rubber base that has 2 breathing holes (more on this
later) and a standard Lovense magnetic charging connector. The device’s size is slightly
larger than usual masturbators with a 6.5 inch insertable length and 24 x 8.5 x 8.5
centimetres in external dimensions.
The inner sleeve included with the device is a clear gender neutral TPE open sleeve that is
quite thin compared to the sleeve of the Svakom Sam Neo and has a slightly firmer feeling. If
you prefer a more realistic Vagina sleeve, Lovense offers them as well for $15 USD on their
website and supported retailers. However the sleeve is still quite flexible and feels standard
compared to other manual strokers. The textures inside the sleeve are nothing
ground-breaking but with the functions of the device it really doesn’t need to be. Similar to
every other smart masturbator with a vibrating function, there is a specific way that the
sleeve needs to be inserted into the device but it’s pretty simple so no points lost there for
me. A potential downside of the sleeve is that it’s made of a porous TPE material, but as
most masturbators are and Lovense offers replacement sleeves for $15 USD, I really can’t
complain too much.
In use:
Expand and Contract
The Max 2 is so many things that I’m not even sure where to start with this portion of the
review. The device has two main functions so I’ll talk about those first. The expand and
contract feature of the device is the main differentiator for the Max 2 from other
masturbators, with a internal 360 degree airbag that fills up with air to tighten the
masturbator sleeve and replicate realistic vaginal contractions, I can positively say that it
overwhelmingly succeeds in what it is attempting. It is probably the most accurate internal
vaginal movement replicated by a device. There are three settings at low, medium and high
with the sleeve getting tighter every time that you cycle through these settings as the airbag
fills with more air. One of the device’s breathing holes found at the bottom of the device
exists to relieve the pressure of the device if it gets too tight during use and to clean up after.
I’ve never experienced a tighter masturbator and it almost felt like the device was moulded
around my own penis due to how airtight it was on the maximum setting. A common
downside mentioned about the Max 2 is the volume of the device as it inflates the airbag.
The sound is quite loud and wouldn’t be suitable for use in a house with other people there
but for me personally just using it under the blanket resulted in enough sound insulation for it
to not be heard from the other room. As the function only expands and contracts it doesn’t
create any suction on its own or has the ability to make someone orgasm by itself however it
is a function that heavily contributes to how good the device feels in use and I would sorely
miss its presence if it wasn’t included.
Vibration
The vibration on this device is simply amazing. Even compared to the male vibrators that I
own such as the Hot Octopuss Jett and wand sleeve attachments, the small yet impressive
bullet inside the Max 2 holds its own in terms of power. The vibration isn’t dampened by the
sleeve and it’s located in a position that directly makes contact with the frenulum which feels
amazing. Again, just as the expand and contract function, the buttons allow you to cycle
through low, medium, and high settings but you can also use the app to gain access to a
wider range of vibrations and I’ll talk more about the app later. The strong and precise
vibrations of the device paired with the contractions can only be described as mind blowing. I
can personally just stick myself into the device, not move at all and still manage to orgasm in
less than 5 minutes on the medium setting with the device doing all the work. With both of
the functions turned to its maximum setting, it almost feels as if the device is trying to milk
the life out of you with the way that the vibration travels into the sleeve and down your shaft
while the airbag compresses against your skin.
The App.
At this point, I had only used the device standalone and was already impressed. However
things only got better when I connected the device to the Lovense app and explored the
functions. The bluetooth connectivity on the mobile app deserves all the praise that it
receives as the app connects to the device almost immediately when you turn on the Max 2.
It’s such a hassle free experience that it almost feels like how Apple’s airpods connect to the
phone as soon as you open the lid. The functions within the Lovense app are almost the
same for all of their toys. There’s the basic touch control with precise and latency free
functions that surprises me to this day. It remained latency free no matter if my partner was
controlling the device from the other side of the city or the other side of the living room couch. The precise controls that the touch function offers, leaves the basic low, medium and
strong settings in the dust as it allows for way more precise controls over vibration and
contraction which is perfect for edging. The Lovense app also has other fun functions such
as connection to pc/mobile/vr games, community/official patterns, sound control, music sync,
speedometer sync and alarm. Up until last year, this list of functions was it. The app was an
amazing looking and amazing feeling addition to the device but it was ultimately just a
controller for the toy.
Vibemate and interactive media
However, Lovense released the Vibemate app, which is a mobile internet browser with a
built in lovense extension that is supported on some of the biggest Porn/Live Streaming
websites such as Pornhub, Xvideos, Chaturbate, Cam4 and ect. Once you click on literally
any video/stream on a pornography/streaming website, there is a drop down menu built into
the website itself usually below the title of the video that allows you to choose between sync
to sound, sync to pattern and sync to donations. The sync to sound is great for PMV’s or
Compilations where the Max 2 will vibrate and contract based on the sound within the media
played, the community patterns are vibrations and contractions usually synced to the
motions displayed by the actors in the video and the sync to donations function is exclusive
to camming websites but will sync the streamers lovense device to yours meaning that it will
vibrate and contract at the same time as theirs creating a much more intimate experience.
The Vibemate app and the Max 2 is the best example of what an interactive masturbator
should be in terms of function and quality especially compared to masturbators such as the
Svakom Sam Neo. The easy to understand UI/UX, large community of pattern creators,
amazing integration into popular pornography and camming websites, sync to
sound/donation functions, almost zero latency and varied range in vibration intensity all
come together to create the best interactive male masturbator I’ve ever used.
Battery
In terms of battery life, the Max 2 takes 100 minutes to charge to 100% and lasts
around 3 hours on a single charge. I’ve owned the device for 2-3 months and only
had to charge it twice even though I’ve been using it on high settings quite
regularly. Your experience may differ based on the settings you use but the fact
that such a powerful device has a better charging to use time ratio than 1:1 is
something that should be celebrated.
Clean up
The open ended sleeve of the Max 2 means that it’s quite easy to clean under
running water and with toy cleaner. However it also means that the device itself
will need to be washed with the air hole on the bottom closed. Washing an
expensive electronic device is always scary but I haven’t had any issues yet in
terms of the waterproof nature of the device. The only complaint that I have about
washing the Max 2 is that it can be quite difficult to put the sleeve back into the
device but I’ve found that opening the air hole before inserting the sleeve really
helps to make the process easier.
Summary
The Max 2 is a ground-breaking smart masturbator that not only satisfied my needs as a standalone product but also as an interactive one despite not having a
stroking mechanism. It’s taken untraditional compression and vibration functions
and refined them to the point where I can’t imagine anyone not being to
experience toe curling orgasms with the device. It’s been one of my rare
purchases where it’s been worth every penny and would’ve been even if I didn’t
